The Raffo family’s history in the marble industry began at the end of the 19th century, when the seafarer Gio Batta Raffo arrived on the shores of Versilia aboard his small vessel.

From there, he began transporting the precious white marble of Carrara between Italy’s major ports.

It was 1875, and for nearly forty years his boat sailed the seas, carrying and delivering the works of Pietrasanta’s renowned sculptors.

Later, Gio Batta Raffo decided to settle in Versilia, start a family with his wife Teresa, and make the region his permanent home.

Their son, Giovanni Battista, was sent to Pietrasanta to learn the art of marble craftsmanship, eventually becoming a sculptor himself.

This passion for the craft was passed down to Giovanni Battista’s son, Andrea, who recognized the commercial potential of the marble industry.

On August 20th 1947, he founded SICEA Marmi, a workshop specializing in the processing of marble and natural stone.

About twenty years later, Andrea entrusted the management of the company to his eldest son, Giovanni Battista.

Drawing on the extensive experience he had gained throughout Europe in the marble trade, Giovanni Battista expanded the business by introducing the processing of granite alongside marble.

During the 1970s and 1980s, a period of remarkable growth, the company responded to a significant demand from the United States for marble and granite used in the construction of skyscrapers.

As the markets expanded and competition increased, Giovanni Battista’s other two children also joined the family business.

In 1991, Raffo Marmi was established, with Giovanni B. Raffo serving as President of the Group. Conceived as a dynamic and forward-looking company, it was created to complement SICEA Marmi in the execution of projects and the processing of marble and natural stone.
